Alpine Meadows Avalanche of 1982

For those of you who are from the Bay Area and were born prior to or in the 60's or early 70's you may remember the big avalanche at Alpine Meadows in 1982.

We're big Alpine skiers now and love the resort. Our kids are in a weekly program there and we're all season pass holders.

For some reason this past weekend, we were talking about the massive avalanche that killed 7 people and covered the base of the resort and most of the parking lot. It's not a great bed-time story, but if you remember the event, you'll find these links super interesting - both about the disaster and the story of Anna Conrad who survived the avalanche and was buried alive for five days. This is a great video rememberance of the story which is about 8 minutes long, but well worth it.

All you need to know about Spring Training in Arizona

My son and I are big Spring Training fans and we're headed there in a few weeks when it kicks off in Arizona. Obviously, our Giants are the big draw for us, but this trip, we're going to see five games in three days at five different stadiums.

Here's a great map of the area with the ball parks high-lighted.

And here's the calendar for this Spring's 2011 games in AZ.

Enjoy!

TV

There's some good TV out there right now and it seems that the major networks aren't quite clear what's good and what's not...
  • Dexter
  • Southland
  • The Big C
But the best show on TV right now is Modern Family.

I know a lame post, but a post nonetheless.
